 Troubleshooting

Why didn't I put out the fire?
The amount of baking soda or vinegar is not enough. Double them. Make sure you use the conical flask to put out the fire as soon as you add the baking soda.

 Scientific Description

The fire needs oxygen to support it. Adding baking soda into the vinegar creates carbon dioxide gas. When the mouth of the Erlenmeyer is moved near to the fire, the produced carbon dioxide goes out which will take the place of the air around the flame. Thus, there is no oxygen around the fire to support the fire and the fire goes out.

 Extensions

Is there another way to create carbon dioxide? Lemon juice shares some character with vinegar.
What methods else can we use to put out the fire?

 Disposal

Pour the liquid into the sink.
